***Description of Catie's birth below (If you don't want to read about it (Dad) just skip to pictures)***
I had a HORRIBLE cold the weekend before Catie was born. I actually left work early on Sunday. I called in one of my fellow interns to come cover me for a few hours. Then at 1 am, I woke up with contractions. They were fairly far apart, so I just thought that I was having some contractions because I wasn't feeling well and hadn't been drinking enough water. I didn't think I could be in labor because I was only 37 weeks and usually first children are born late. Once again, my plans and reality...completely different ;-) The contractions started getting closer together around 3 am. I woke Jon up at 4 and we called my doctor at 5. We eventually left for the hospital at around 6:20. On the drive up, the contractions were about 2-4 minutes apart. We got the the hospital at about 7 am. By 8, I was fully dilated and ready to start pushing. That's when things slowed down a little bit. I wasn't able to get an epidural which was kind of a bummer since I was not planning on going through labor with no pain medication. But you make adjustments when you need to! There were definitely benefits to no pain meds...I was able to adjust my positions, which turned out to be important because Catie was positioned occiput posterior (back of her head was towards my spine) or in layman's terms "sunny-side up" which is a more difficult position. Because I was able to move around, we were actually able to get her turned. Anyhow, I pushed for about 2 hours, and she was born at 9:52 am. Here are some pics...
